How it works
Gallons = miles ÷ MPG. Cost = gallons × price per gallon. Tick round trip to double the distance.
Example
A 300-mile trip in a car that gets 28 mpg uses about 10.7 gallons. At $3.15 a gallon, gas costs about $33.75, or $67.50 for the round trip.
Highway MPG is usually better than city MPG. Check fueleconomy.gov for your car's official numbers.
