Tile Calculator

By the CalcMundi team · Updated October 22, 2026 · Formulas checked against standard financial math

Enter the room and tile sizes to find out how many tiles and boxes to buy.

How it is calculated

Room area ÷ area of one tile, plus extra for cuts and breakage. Use 10% for simple rooms and 15% for many cuts or a diagonal layout.

Example

A 12 × 10 ft room with 12 × 12 in tiles needs 132 tiles with 10% extra. With 15 sq ft per box, buy 9 boxes. Baseboard: about 41 ft.

These are estimates to plan your purchase. Check measurements on site and follow the manufacturer’s instructions and local building codes.

Frequently asked questions

Why buy extra?

Different batches can vary in shade. Extra tiles from the same batch cover cuts and future repairs.
