How it is calculated
Maximum heart rate is estimated as 220 − age or with the Tanaka formula (208 − 0.7 × age), more accurate after 40. With your resting heart rate, we use the Karvonen method, which accounts for your fitness.
Example
At 35, the estimated maximum is 185 bpm. With a resting rate of 65 bpm, zone 2 is 137 to 149 bpm.
Results are estimates for healthy adults and do not replace advice from a doctor, dietitian or trainer.
