How to compare
Divide the price by the size. Many stores print the unit price on the shelf tag, but it is not always shown in the same unit for every package.
Example
Coffee: 500 g for $3.49 ($6.98/kg), 1 kg for $5.99 ($5.99/kg) and 200 g for $1.29 ($6.45/kg). The 1 kg bag is about 14% cheaper than the 500 g one.
Frequently asked questions
Is the bigger size always cheaper?
No. Sales on smaller sizes are common, and a bigger size only pays off if you use it before it spoils.
