Formulas
- Monthly transfer = visitors × pages per visit × page size
- Average bandwidth = monthly transfer × 8 ÷ seconds in a month
- Peak = average × peak factor
Example
50,000 visitors viewing 3 pages of 2 MB each use 300 GB a month: 0.91 Mbps on average and about 2.7 Mbps at a peak three times the average.
How to use less
- Compress images and use modern formats (WebP, AVIF).
- Put a CDN in front of the site so most files are served from its cache.
Frequently asked questions
Is “unlimited bandwidth” really unlimited?
Usually there is a fair-use limit. Check your hosting terms if you serve video or large downloads.
Does the CDN traffic count?
The visitor still downloads the files, but from the CDN, not your server. The cache field shows what is left for your server.
